Members of the League City community and the American Legion recently came together to celebrate a local Purple Heart Veteran's 90th birthday with a special car parade.
On Tuesday, July 13, decorated cars and residents with "Happy Birthday" signs, balloons and cards flocked the Westover Park Subdivision to drive by retired Army Sergeant 1st Class Harold Lloyd Eaton's home. Officers with the League City Police Department also stopped by to wish him a happy birthday.
"It's a great feeling to know you're not alone and that people appreciate you,"said Eaton.
This birthday was extra special for the Navajo veteran, after he was given one year to live in 2020 due to the effects of his exposure to Agent Orange. He has proven his strength by surviving past the year.
Mr. Eaton entered the Army at age 17 and served from 1948-1968. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, and a Bronze Star during his 20 years of service.
He was awarded with a Quilt of Valor Presentation by the American Legion at his birthday celebration.
