The City of League City is continuing its efforts to complete the Calder Road improvement project, which consists of a total reconstruction of the roadway from the ground up. Approximately 1.5 miles of Calder Road are being converted from a two-lane asphalt roadway with roadside ditches for drainage, into a two-lane concrete roadway with a continuous bi-directional left turn line with curb and gutter and an underground storm sewer for drainage.
This complex project requires extensive work not only above ground, but below as well. To date, 5,400 linear feet of storm sewer has been installed, which is equivalent to 18 football fields. A total of 6,000 linear feet of CenterPoint gas lines have been relocated, which is equivalent to 1.1 miles, and 2,000 linear feet of water main lines have been relocated. Above ground, crews have installed 2,400 linear feet of culverts and 4,200 square yards of concrete pavement. A total of 58 Texas New Mexico Power poles have been relocated.
While the project is not completed, substantial improvement has been made. The intersection at Turner Street is expected to be reopened for northbound traffic in September, and Calder Road is expected to be open for two-way traffic by the end of 2018. The City has heard the concerns of resident regarding the poor condition of Turner Street and is addressing these needs by installing temporary asphalt to make conditions better for those who live in the area.
Residents with further questions or concerns about the Calder Road project can contact the City’s Project manager, Susan Oyler by phone 281-554-1453, or email susan.oyler@leaguecitytx.gov.
