Melodey Mozeley Hauch, an award-winning local historian and author, will tell the story of three families who settled in Virginia Point from the 1830s to the 1850s. Due to its location on the mainland across the bay from Galveston Island, the area was vital in the changing face of transportation from ferry boats to steam boats and railroad bridges to causeways. The fort at Virginia point was a staging area for the 1863 New Year's Day attack on Union forces holding Galveston. Today the area is part of a huge preservation effort led by Scenic Galveston, Inc.
